DREAMER’S DISEASE PUTS THEM TO SLEEP
IN THE $100,000 DELTA MILE AT DELTA DOWNS

RICKY COURVILLE TRAINEE GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE FOR THE TALLY

VINTON, LA. – The featured race at Delta Downs on Saturday night was the $100,000 Delta Mile Stakes. The race consisted of just five runners after three scratches, but the fans were still treated to a dazzling performance as Dreamer’s Disease went wire-to-wire for victory under jockey Devin Magnon.

After breaking sharply from post position four, Dreamer’s Disease cleared the field quickly under Magnon and then settled in for his ground saving trip while carving out fractional times of 23.39 seconds for the opening quarter mile, 47.64 for the half, and 1:12.58 for three quarters. As he turned for home, he was clear by several lengths but still had to hold off a late charge by Dust Em, who was finishing gamely and gaining on the eventual winner.

At the finish line Dreamer’s Disease, who is trained by Ricky Courville, was one length clear of Dust Em while Munqad rounded out the trifecta, finishing another four lengths behind the runner-up. The winner covered eight furlongs in a final time of 1:39.59 while racing over a fast track.

Cypress Creek Equine (Richard K. Moody) and Arnold Bennewith own Dreamer’s Disease, who earned $60,000 for the win and now has a bankroll of $262,955 on three wins from 17 career starts.

Bred in Kentucky by Southern Equine Stables LLC, Dreamer’s Disease is a 4-year-old bay gelding by Laoban, out of the Stormy Atlantic mare Marketplace.

Sent to the gate at odds of 5-2, Dreamer’s Disease paid $7.80 to win, $5.60 to place and $4 to show. Dust Em was worth $6.20 to place and $3.80 to show. Munqad returned $8.20 to show.

Delta Downs will race again next Wednesday through Saturday nights. First post time for each program is at 4:55 pm.
