BOW BOW GIRL RALLIES FOR BIG WIN IN THE
$100,000 TREASURE CHEST STAKES AT DELTA DOWNS

CHRIS RICHARD TRAINEE RELISHES THE MUD UNDER JOCKEY GERARD MELANCON

VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted the $100,000 Treasure Chest Stakes on Friday night and the outcome came as a surprise to many as 18-1 longshot Bow Bow Girl used a rail-skimming trip under jockey Gerard Melancon to score a big win for owner Stanford D. Cole and trainer Chris Richard.

Bow Bow Girl’s victory was accomplished over a muddy and sealed racetrack as Melancon took his mount back early in the field of nine. The eventual winner was content to save ground at the rail while Onamargaritaday set solid early fractional times of 22.96 seconds for the opening quarter mile and 47.41 for the half mile. As the field made their way to the second turn of the eight-furlong event, Onamargaritaday gave way to Pretti Xtreme, who looked to be in great shape turning for home but Bow Bow Girl had other ideas as she began to rally while riding the rail.

The pair ran shoulder to shoulder for a few strides while and completed 3/4 of a mile in a time of 1:13.00. It was at that point Bow Bow Girl began to put away her rival as she opened up a clear lead in the stretch. At the finish line she was 2-1/4 lengths in front of Pretti Xtreme while Onamargaritaday stayed on for third, another four lengths behind the runner-up. Bow Bow Girl covered the distance in a time of 1:40.10.

The win by Bow Bow Girl was the fifth of her 24-race career. She bagged $60,000 for the effort which raised her bankroll to $287,117.

Bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm, Bow Bow Girl is a 4-year-old filly by Oxbow, out of the Tapit mare Carocuore.

Dismissed by the wagering public at odds of 18-1, Bow Bow Girl paid $38 to win, $16.20 to place and $10.20 to show. Pretti Xtreme was worth $6.40 to place and $4.20 to show. Onamargaritaday returned $8.20 to show.
